It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Don at the age of 96. Beloved husband of Sheila. Cherished father of David (Karen), Stephen (Mary), Stacy (Gayle), Douglas (Sandy), and Craig (Tanya). Loving grandfather to Blair (Pedro), Alexandra, Haddon (Daniela), Julie (Dylan), Ryan (Vicky), Alyce (Kristian), Abigail (Liam), Freddie, Charlotte, Annabel and Owen. Great grandfather to Mila, Giselle, Jack, Bennett, Sofia, Emma, Maille and Dorian.
Predeceased by his parents, Thelma (Wilson) Davis and Archibald Wilson; immensely cherished aunts, Marion Wilson and Margaret Cooper; brother’s-in-law Ross MacDougall and Gordon Stewart (Donna).
In life Don worked as a personnel manager for Goodyear Tire. Once retired, Don attended Fairview College in northern Alberta earning a Beekeeping Technician Diploma. Following this, Don and Sheila worked in Sri Lanka which provided them the opportunity for many wonderful experiences and adventures around the world. Second retirement took them to Collingwood and Georgian Bay, where Don enjoyed special times with family, friends and the outdoors.
Don’s family would like to thank the staff at The Village of Tansley Woods, SE Health Care, Acclaim Health, and Joseph Brant Hospital. Don always ended a visit with a heartfelt, “Thank you for your care”, and he meant it!
In keeping with the family's wishes, a Memorial Gathering will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, May 3rd , 2024 from 4 - 7 p.m. with tributes taking place at 5:30 p.m. Private interment will have taken place. If desired, memorial contributions to Doctors Without Borders would be sincerely appreciated by Don’s family.
