One of the Collingwood Canada Post locations has been closed since last week after employees reported a "strong odour."
Canada Post's media relations confirmed the post office at 33 Hurontario Street will remain closed "until we have clearance to return."
Valérie Chartrand told CollingwoodToday in an email the local employees noticed the smell on Thursday, Dec. 17.
"The health and safety of our employees is of utmost importance," said Chartrand.
Those who have mailboxes at the Hurontario Street location and who have not picked up their mail since Dec. 18 can still access their post office boxes on site. For any new mail since Friday, customers can temporarily pick up their mail and carded parcels at the Canada Post depot in Collingwood at 90 High Street between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday to Firday. Canada Post is asking customers to bring photo ID to pick up mail and parcels.
The post office outlet at Shoppers Druge Mart (175 First Street) is still open and serving customers.
Canada Post apologized for the inconvenience.
"We have been working since Thursday and through the weekend to resolve the issue and reopen the post office," stated Chartrand in the email.
