Collecting is a community effort and the Collingwood Museum’s newest initiative aims to increase the body of knowledge about Collingwood’s history by forming invaluable relationships with community collectors.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Collingwood Museum invites you to an informal evening of bottle and crock talk with local collector Sean Redman from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Redman’s collection of local glass bottles and crocks is presently on display in the Museum’s west entrance and features items from Collingwood’s dairies and downtown businesses. Of particular interest is a rare crock that dates to one of Hurontario Street’s earliest businesses – F.T. Bowles’ Checkered Store.
Bottles and crocks in the museum’s permanent collection will also be on display for participants to view, as well as a variety of resources to assist participants in researching the histories of their own collections. Available resources will include early Collingwood directories, research folders, and publications. Participants will also have access to the Museum’s collections database.
Participants are invited to bring bottles and crocks from their personal collections for a community show-and-tell. Tables will be provided by the museum.
On a bi-monthly basis, staff will be working with community collectors to showcase private collections in a designated case by the museum’s west entrance. If you’re interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Museum staff at [email protected].
