Clearview youth among 29 new COVID cases in Simcoe County today

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 31 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today, 29 of which are Simcoe County residents. 

There is one Clearview Township girl under 18 years old included on the list of cases today. Her case is still under investigation. 

There are 11 new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury today and for all 11 cases the transmission source is still under investigation. The cases include a boy under 18, four men between 18 and 34 years old, two women and two men between 35 and 44 years old, and two women between 45 and 64 years old. 

There are four new cases in Barrie today including two women and a man between 18 and 34 years old – all under investigation, and a woman between 35 and 44 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 

There are three new cases in Innisfil, all three are men between 18 and 34 years old. Two of the cases are linked to close contact and one is community-acquired. 

There are five new cases in New Tecumseth, where the incidence rate is highest in the region. The new cases include a boy under 18, a woman between 18 and 34 years old, a woman between 35 and 44 years old, and two men between 65 and 79 years old. Two of the cases are linked to close contact and the other three are still under investigation. 

In nearby Adjala-Tosorontio, the lone new case – a boy under 18 – is linked to an educational setting outbreak.

There are three new cases in Ramara today, including a woman between 18 and 34 years old, and a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact and the other two are under investigation. 

There is one new case in Oro-Medonte today – a woman between 18 and 34 years old – which is still under investigation. 

The health unit has also confirmed two new Muskoka cases, including a woman between 35 and 44 years old from Gravenhurst and a man between 45 and 64 years old from Huntsville. The Gravenhurst case is linked to close contact while the Huntsville case is under investigation.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,750 cases of COVID-19, with 1,663 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,476 cases listed as recovered in the region. Seven people are currently hospitalized, and of those six are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 315 cases per 100,000 people.

The Simcoe-Muskoka region is currently in the yellow "protect" category of the Ontario COVID-19 COVID restrictions framework. As of Nov. 17, the weekly incidence rate is 28.6 cases per 100,000 people per week and the reproductive number is 1.2, meaning each person with COVID transmits the virus to 1.2 other people. The region's per cent positivity rate is 1.9 per cent.

According to the province's plan, regions can be placed under the orange "restrict" level with a weekly incidence rate of 25 to 39.9 cases per 100,000 and a per cent positivity 1.3 to 2.4 per cent and a reproductive rate between 1 and 1.1.
