An outbreak of COVID-19 at Collingwood Nursing Home has now been declared over by the region's health unit.
Dr. Charles Gardner said today the outbreak was declared over as 14 days have passed without any new cases. The outbreak was declared after three residents without symptoms tested positive during a universal testing initiative mandated by the province.
Three women, one in her 80s, one in her 90s, and one in her 100s tested positive. However, they tested negative after a second test was done. One of the women did show some respiratory symptoms, but she also has allergies, so it's possible the symptoms were related to her allergies. The symptoms have since subsided, according to Gardner.
Gardner said the health unit is not declaring those cases false positives, as it is unlikely all three were false positives.
"It's possible they were mild cases," said Gardner.
There have been four new cases confirmed in Simcoe County, but no new cases reported in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview or The Blue Mountains.
There have been 15 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Collingwood residents, 11 of which are now reported recovered.
Public Health Ontario reported the lowest daily increase in cases today since March 30 with 287 cases reported today. The province also reported 21 deaths and 260 new recoveries.
