Today's health unit update announced eight new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe County, including one in Collingwood.

According to the health unit, the latest local case is a man between 35 and 44 years old. The man's transmission source is close contact, which means he had contact with a case the health unit had been tracking. There are no other reported active cases in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview, or The Blue Mountains.

This is the first case reported in the Town of Collingwood in two months. The last confirmed case in a Collingwood resident was reported on May 19.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 16 lab-confirmed cases in Collingwood residents, 15 of those have since been reported recovered. There have been no deaths of Collingwood residents related to COVID-19.

There was an outbreak declared at Collingwood Nursing Home after three residents tested positive, but all three recovered.

Public Health Ontario reported 135 new cases of COVID-19 today, a majority of which came from Peel, Toronto, and Windsor-Essex health units.

Those three health units are now the only ones in the province still in Stage 2 of the Ontario reopening plan. Premier Doug Ford announced seven of the ten health units previously held back, would be advancing to Stage 3 today.

The Town of Collingwood has reopened all of its playgrounds as of this weekend.

Collingwood Public Library opened its doors for the first time since March today, for some in-person service. There are public computers now available for 30-minute sessions, and you can pick up material at the check out counter. More on the library services here.

A health unit order has made it mandatory for people to wear face coverings indoors in public buildings and businesses. Some exemptions apply. You can find information about the health unit's order here
