Face mask exemption card is a scam: health unit

You don't need any proof to exempt you from mandatory mask orders in Grey, Bruce, Simcoe, or Muskoka

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is again reminding the public there's no such thing as a COVID-19 face mask exemption card.

"These cards are being sold as a scam," states a press release issued by the health unit. "There is no requirement for a COVID-19 face mask medical exemption card or anything similar."

An order from the Grey Bruce Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Ian Arra requiring people to wear masks indoors in public spaces came into effect today. A similar order has been in effect in Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit since Monday.

For both orders, there are exemptions for children under five, people with medical conditions, and religious beliefs that prevent people from wearing face coverings. Those who cannot remove their own mask without assistance are not required to wear a face covering.

Both health units have stated several times there is no need for a doctors note or other form of documentation to prove an exemption to the mandatory mask rule. If asked, people can simply state they are exempt from the mask order and no further information is required.

Businesses are not required to turn people away for not wearing a mask, but they may deny entry to someone not wearing a mask if they choose.
