NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF THE BLUE MOUNTAINS
********************
The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to advise the public that effective immediately as an interim measure to manage community safety and to encourage physical distancing, the Northwinds Beach parking lot will be closed, and the Peasmarsh Beach parking lot will be under controlled access.
With the warm weather and the influx of beach visitors, the beach areas have proven to be difficult to manage with respect to traffic management, pedestrian flow and physical distancing. As a result, these measures have been implemented on an interim basis until additional enforcement staff are available.
Northwinds Beach
- The main parking lot for Northwinds Beach will be closed.
- Limited parking will be available at the Craigleith Heritage Depot. Please use the pedestrian crosswalk and access at the intersection of Grey Road 19.
- Parking is not permitted along Highway 26. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
- Parking on Lakeshore Road East is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes to allow for beachgoers to be dropped off.
- As an alternative to Northwinds Beach, the Craigleith Provincial Park is offering paid day-use passes for $15.50 / day (65+ $12.50, and Disabled Parking Permit $7.75)
Peasmarsh Beach
- The main parking lot for Peasmarsh Beach will be limited to a maximum of 30 vehicles.
- Town enforcement staff will be at the parking lot, limiting access based on availability.
In addition, the Town would like to remind the public that all beach areas are actively monitored and enforced by the Town By-law Department and the Ontario Provincial Police.
“Ensuring the safety of residents and visitors is the primary focus for the Town, and these temporary measures are necessary to ensure that we are able to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for those visiting a beach,” explained Mayor Alar Soever.
“If you do plan on going to the beach, please watch for on-site signage, and if the beach is full, please consider visiting one of our other beaches or Craigleith Provincial Park."
