The region’s health unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a Bradford retirement home after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.
Holland Gardens Retirement Residence is the latest facility declared in COVID outbreak in Simcoe County.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Charles Gardner confirmed today the outbreak was declared Nov. 13 as a result of the staff case.
Provincial legislation dictates a COVID outbreak be declared after a single positive test result in a staff or resident at a long-term care or retirement home in order to trigger outbreak protocols and further restrictions.
Gardner said tests have been drawn for residents and staff but results are still pending.
There are six active COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care and retirement homes in Simcoe County including the one at Holland Gardens.
The largest outbreak is at Simcoe Manor in Beeton, where 43 residents and 32 staff have tested positive. Ten residents have died, and the county has reported there are zero active or symptomatic cases in the home as of Nov. 16. One person from the home is hospitalized and 32 residents are reported as recovered. The outbreak status has not yet been lifted. The outbreak was declared on Oct. 29.
There is an active outbreak at Sunset Manor in Collingwood, declared Nov. 8, where one staff member and one resident has tested positive.
In Barrie Allandale Station Retirement Residence and IOOF Baldwin Lane unit remain in outbreak status (declared Nov. 5 and 4 respectively). At Allandale Station there have been three resident and three staff cases. At IOOF there has been a single staff case and no resident cases.
The health unit declared an outbreak at Waterford Retirement Community over today. That outbreak was declared Nov. 2 and involved a single resident case.
