At Pretty River Memory Care Residence, we are passionate about the life journey providing specialized Dementia care for Alzheimer's and other associated Dementias.
In a home like setting, the building has been specifically designed to employ a variety of methods and strategies to assist with the activities of daily living based on an individual’s needs. Access to controlled exterior spaces with gardens and pathways, open areas that resemble home like living spaces and dining spaces that are set in family style with lighting and colours that encourage nutrition. These are all items woven into the setting of Pretty River Residence. In the background we have also incorporated significant safety measures. An integrated group of technologies are working to keep loved ones safe. Our resident care pendant system is there to alert staff and call attention when needed; even when a resident cannot activate the alert themselves. The system also passively monitors and advises staff of situations that would be concerning before they occur. Resident proximity alerts for staff ensure that curiosity with exits and other personal units are monitored and diverted before any conflict or safety worry is present. The integration into the closed-circuit camera system allows staff to visualize activities such as access to checkpoint areas when understanding movements are important. Resident pendants are programmed to each individual resident; staff are alerted of movement through zones within the home that could create concern. We can also utilize information to craft programs and activities specific to each resident at the time or occasion of their daily activity pattern.
Pretty River Residence balances the use of smart technologies with lighting in both colour and brightness to ensure the promotion of mood and balance and removal or reduction of lighting when the natural environment is best used or seen. The building has also been designed with large windows in the dining rooms to highlight the natural environment in our back yard; set on the Heather Pathway of the Collingwood Trail system and historic Pretty River.
