Christine Mountain is supporting local cancer patients by taking care of the housework.
In partnership with the non-profit Cleaning for a Reason, Mountain, who is the owner of Mountain Cleaning Corporation, will clean the homes of cancer patients who live in the South Georgian Bay area at no cost to them.
“I think it’s important to give back to the community in some way,” she said.
Based in the United States, Cleaning for a Reason partners with residential cleaning companies in Canada and the U.S. to compensate them on their cleaning services so there's no charge for services to local cancer patients. The organization was started by the owner of a residential cleaning company who decided she wouldn't turn down any clients undergoing cancer treatments and would instead clean their homes for free.
Mountain has witnessed loved ones go through cancer, so when she discovered the non-profit, the mission resonated with her.
She established the partnership in May and just got her first client through the program last month. Incorporating a give-back program has been a goal of Mountain’s since she first started cleaning homes six years ago. She now has a team of six full-time staff and has been able to expand to offer her services from Meaford to Tiny.
She hopes the work she does will provide some relief and kindness to patients and their families, who are going through a battle with cancer.
"Our goal is to remove the burden of cleaning and allow those recovering from surgery, in active treatment, or in hospice to focus on their health and spending valuable time with loved ones," states the Cleaning for a Reason website.
The non-profit has served 44,750 patients since 2006, donating about $15.2 million in house cleaning through its 1,200 partnered cleaning companies.
