106 new COVID-19 cases Friday in Simcoe-Muskoka

Three of today's new cases are in Wasaga Beach; one person between 18 and 34, one between 35 and 44 and one between 65 and 79

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 106 new COVID-19 cases and one new death in its latest update posted Friday, Dec. 10.

The death being reported today is a Barrie resident. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County today are as follows:  

  • Barrie (30): Twelve youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, four people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, two people between 65 and 79 and three people over the age of 80. Five cases are linked to close-contact transmission, three are listed as community-acquired (no known link), and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (9): Six youth under the age of 18, two people between 35 and 44 and one person between 45 and 64. Two cases are linked to close contact and the rest remain under investigation. 
  • Orillia (7): One youth under the age of 18, four people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 and person between 45 and 64 years old  One case is linked to close contact, and the rest remain under investigation
  • Innisfil (6): Three youth under the age of 18, One person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One is linked to close contact and the rest remain under investigation. 
  • Midland (6): Two youth under the age of 18, one person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old  Two cases are listed as outbreak related and the rest are still under investigation.
  • Oro-Medonte (4): Three youth under the age of 17 and one person between the ages of 65 and 79. One case is listed as community acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation.
  • New Tecumseth (4): One youth under the age of 18, one person between 35 and 44 and two people between the ages of 45 and 64. Two are linked to close contact and two are still under investigation. 
  • Tay (3): Two youth under the age of 18 and one person between 18 and 34 years old. All three case remain under investigation.
  • Wasaga Beach (3): One person between 18 and 34, one person between 35 and 44 and one person between 65 and 79 years of age. Two cases are linked to close contact and the third remains under investigation.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (3): Three people between 18 and 34. One case is listed community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Penetanguishene (3): One person between 35 and 44 years old and two people between the age of 45 and 64. Two cases are outbreak related and the third remains under investigation.
  • Essa (2): One person under the age of 18 and one person between the age of 65 and 79.  One case is linked to close contact and the other is still under investigation. 
  • Clearview (1): One person between the ages of 18 and 34. The case is under investigation. 
  • Severn: (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 35 and 44years of age. All three cases remain under investigation. One case is listed as community acquired (no known link) and the second remains under investigation. 

Included in the new cases reported today are 66 unvaccinated, three partially vaccinated, and 37 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 748 active cases in the region. 

There are currently 33 people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka Region hospitalized with with COVID-19. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 16,513 cases of COVID-19 with 15,484 of those cases recovered and 281 cases ending in death. 

More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and just over 79 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.
