Remember to place your household batteries in a clear, sealed bag on the curb next week if you live in Barrie, Orillia, or the rest of Simcoe County.
Orillia, Barrie and the County of Simcoe's curbside waste collection services will be picking up spent batteries during the week of Nov. 7-12 on your regular collection date.
The program collects single-use batteries only, including type AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9 volt and button batteries commonly used for hearing aids and watches. Batteries that are rechargeable, including cell phone and laptop batteries, car and industrial battery packs are not accepted, but can be taken to a municipal household hazardous waste facility for safe and free disposal.
For curbside collection for County of Simcoe waste collection customers, a resealable bag was delivered by mail to place batteries in. Otherwise, use a clear, zip seal, plastic bag, and place the full bag on top of the collection cart when you place your bins out for collection day.
For Barrie residents, put out batteries in a clear, sealed bag in a visible location beside your recycling boxes on collection day. Orillia residents are asked to put the clear, sealed bag of batteries on top of their paper recycling box. In Orillia, curbside battery collection does not include businesses an apartments that set out large roll-out carts.
Spent batteries of any kind should not be put into the garbage or regular recycling bins.
If you have questions about battery collection week, you can visit the County of Simcoe website here or the City of Barrie website here. In Orillia, you can call the city's waste diversion site at 705-325-3522.
