CCI hockey team makes OFSAA with historic win

The CCI Owls beat the St. Peter's Panthers 7-4 during the GBSSA final game at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena today.

Collingwood Collegiate Institute's boy's hockey team won a victory on home ice today that will give them a spot at provincial championships for the first time in the team's history.

CCI teacher Todd Hammond said the boy's team has lost in overtime two years in a row during the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) championships.

Today, the Owls took the victory against the Panthers St. Peter's Secondary School (Barrie) at the Eddie Bush Arena during an afternoon game. CCI won 7-4, scoring four goals to the Panthers' one in the third period. CCI scored two goals on an open net after the Panthers' pulled their goalie to mount a stronger offensive.

On March 20-22, the CCI Owls will travel to Barrie for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament. Hammond said this will be the first time the CCI boy's team competes in the OFSAA tournament.
