Collingwood Climate Action Team (CCAT) is asking residents to leave their car parked a little more next month and opt for pedal-powered transportation.
June is bike month for the local climate group, and its members are encouraging people to take part in one or more of the activities lined up for next month.
From June 1 to July 1, CCAT will be running a contest called Ready, Set, Bike, which is set up like a scavenger hunt bingo of activities to complete on your bike. There are weekly draws for a chance to win $500 in cash and more prizes. More information on the contest is available at collingwoodclimateaction.com.
On June 3, the Town of Collingwood with neighbouring municipalities is hosting Trail Tunes, which will bring live music performances to local trails. In Collingwood, there will be performances at the Shipyards Amphitheatre from noon to 9 p.m. CCAT will be set up at the amphitheatre with information on more bike month activities.
There will be community bike rides on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. Participants can meet at the Collingwood Public Library to join the ride.
Local bike businesses will be running demos throughout the month. Little Ed's will run a demo at Harbourview Park on June 11, and Georgian Trail e-bike Rentals will have a demo at 6th and Oak Street on June 24.
On July 1, the Collingwood Optimist Club will again be hosting the family bike parade, and anyone is welcome to join and decorate their bike for the occasion.
"We hope to promote walking, cycling and transit use; all important aspects of active transportation and lowering your greenhouse gas emissions," states a news release from CCAT.
There's also the added bonus of exploring the town's trails and enjoying the summer weather.
