Collingwood’s fire department has had a busy week, but it’s been in the name of preventing fires.

Fire Prevention Inspector Carl Prochilo was at Admiral Elementary School today for a fire drill, and he and others will be conducting fire drills at every school in Collingwood before the week is done.

This week is Fire Prevention Week in Ontario, and the National Fire Protection Association has established this year’s theme as Look, Listen and Learn: Fire Can Happen Anywhere.

In addition to the school drills, firefighters were out last night delivering pizzas for Domino’s Pizza in Collingwood. If they arrived at a home with a pizza and the homeowners could prove they had working smoke alarms, their pizza was free.

They will be delivering pizza again tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will also be firefighters at McDonald's tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m. for coffee with a firefighter. Stop by McDonald's and chat with a local firefighter, be sure to bring all those burning questions.
