The Collingwood Downtown business association (BIA) is encouraging people to shop their main streets.
Part of a nationwide movement dubbed Shop Main Street Canada. Support Local, the campaign is meant to get people embracing a local-first consumer philosophy.
Main Street refers to local economies, businesses and consumers and the commercial and community focal point of a neighbourhood, states a news release from the Collingwood Downtown BIA.
"In Collingwood, this heart of our community is much more than what we refer to as 'Main' (Hurontario) Street. It encompasses more than 400 vibrant businesses along this street as well as to the east and west, most of which also incorporates the community’s designated heritage district," states the news release.
Susan Nicholson, general manager of the BIA said the campaign is about investing in the future of the community.
“By choosing to shop, dine, and do business on Main Streets, we are directly contributing to economic growth, job creation and the preservation of the unique character of our neighbourhoods,” she said in the news release.
The BIA is offering a toolkit for local businesses, which includes logos, social media assets, marketing materials and other information about the campaign.
Residents, business owners, and visitors who would like to support the campaign can participate in the following ways:
- Shopping at local businesses
- Dining at independently owned restaurants and cafés
- Choosing Canadian-made products and services
- Connect with Collingwood Downtown about their initiatives and promotions
