There will be two more people inducted into Collingwood's Sports Hall of Fame this spring adding to the 48-year-old local tradition.
The directors for the hall of fame announced builder Harvey Pearen and athlete Raymond Sheffield will be inducted to the hall this spring, and the 2017/2018 Collingwood Blackhawks PeeWee AE3 Hockey Team will be added to the wall of fame.
Sheffield is being inducted for his athletic achievements as a hockey player. He was raised in Collingwood and played local minor hockey before joining the OHA Collingwood Blues in 1989/90 and the Creemore Chiefs.
He was the first captain of the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League and won four national championships. The team retired his number (19) after his 13-year career averaging .64 points per game. He captained more games than anyone in the Australian league.
Pearen is being inducted for his contributions to the sports of hockey and baseball. He was a referee and linesmen for the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and a Collingwood minor hockey coach in the 1960s. He was the manager of the Collingwood Blues Junior B Hockey Team in 1973 to 1976, and he was a baseball umpire in the 1980s to the 1990s.
The 2017/18 Collingwood PeeWee AE3 Hockey team will be added to the wall of fame as the Ontario Minor Hockey Association champions, the Georgian Bay champions, and Silver Stick semi-finalists for their year. They finished the season with a record of 43 wins, four losses, and three overtime losses.
Further details including ticket sales, location, and date for the induction ceremony taking place this spring will be released soon.
