Collingwood’s town hall clock tower has been lit up green for two nights and will be again for the next five.
In honour of Breaking Down Barriers, the tower will be green from Aug. 18 to 24, with a goal of getting people talking about changes that could be made to make life easier for people with disabilities.
“We’re starting a conversation about how we can continue to work and advocate on behalf of those who have disabilities to be able to live and manage within their own homes and the community as it relates to public and private services,” Deputy Mayor Keith Hull told CollingwoodToday.ca.
He said businesses also have a responsibility to make provisions so those with disabilities can use those resources.
“It’s not OK just to say, we’ll make sure our doors are open. It’s (about) ensuring we’re actually putting in place the resources so somebody with a disability can access goods and resources,” he said.
Breaking Down Barriers is a registered charity and an inclusive agency, serving people with physical, sensory, emotional or intellectual disabilities.
