CollingwoodToday.ca celebrates first birthday

CollingwoodToday.ca has been a source for local news and advertising for one year.

We're celebrating our first birthday, today.

CollingwoodToday.ca has been a source for local news and advertising for one year. We launched this go-to site for up-to-the-minute local news, features on community leaders and events, business openings and everything in between on February 26, 2018.

“We believe that locally-driven news is essential to communities," said Jeff Elgie, CEO of Village Media, the company behind CollingwoodToday.ca, on the day the site was launched. “We are proud to be extremely community-minded and cover important stories in your city. We have a great team in place and look forward to becoming an integrated part of the community’s daily news.”

At a celebration this afternoon at the Huron Club, CollingwoodToday.ca publisher John Hammill said the first year has been successful growing from 100,000 monthly page views to more than 360,000.

"I like to say, 'we're not just a daily, we're an hourly,'" said Hammill during the anniversary celebration. "I'm looking forward to the years coming."

Mayor Brian Saunderson wished us a "happy birthday." He recalled the close of the Enterprise Bulletin in November, 2017, just months before the launch of our news site.

"Out of those ashes good talent has risen and started this," said Saunderson. "The Fifth Estate is critical to our democracy ... having this type of daily helps us get information out and in a meaningful way."

CollingwoodToday.ca is part of the Village Media network, one of the largest in the province with significant reach across northern Ontario.

The local team includes Stuart Snelgrove, advertising account executive; Jessica Owen, reporter; and Erika Engel, community editor and reporter. They're supported by Hammill as the regional publisher, Nicole Parkes as regional sales manager, and Dave Dawson as regional editor.

Thank you, Collingwood, for trusting us with your stories, advertising, and questions this year. We're looking forward to more.
