In a couple of weeks a local community choir will gather again to start in-person rehearsals for a Christmas concert, something they've been eager to do since March 2020.
The Sound Investment Choir will be hoping for a season of high notes this year as they work toward their first concert in nearly three years and search for a new choir director.
Former Collingwood Collegiate Institute music teacher Aaron Bell was directing the choir but has moved out of town, so the group finds itself in need of a replacement.
"We will begin rehearsing and plan to have a Christmas concert and trust we will find someone to take the job on," said choir president Sandy McGrath.
The group of about 30 to 35 adult members rehearses Monday evenings at a local church from September to early May. They put on two local concerts a year including the Christmas performance and a spring show.
McGrath said there's no audition requirements and the group has fun with lighter music that is less technically demanding. They sing a variety of genres from traditional to folk, pop, jazz, and country.
"Music is good for the soul, good for endorphins," said McGrath. "It's great to make music with other people. When you join your voices together, it's just a really special experience."
The Sound Investment Choir will begin rehearsals in September. Anyone interested in the director position, or in joining the choir, should contact McGrath by email at [email protected].
