Councillor Yvonne Hamlin is the first person registered to run in the municipal election this fall, and she'll be going after the mayor's chair.
Hamlin registered this morning and announced her candidacy in a media release. She's the first person on the online uncertified list of candidates kept updated by the town's clerk services staff.
Hamlin was elected to Collingwood council for the first time in 2018. During her term she served on the Development and Operations committee (including as chairperson), and the Joint Municipal Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee.
"We need real action on getting housing that is affordable for people who work here," said Hamlin in her news release to announce her candidacy. "[We need action] on making sure development respects our community, and on building a healthy and safe town."
Nominations for municipal election candidates opened today, May 2, and will close Aug. 19.
The election will take place Oct. 24, 2022.
