A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the surgical unit of the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

Visitor restrictions are in effect for the surgical unit, and visitors are only permitted for palliative or end-of-life patients. Essential caregivers and visitors with prior approval from the department manager or resource nurse may also be allowed.

There are COVID-19 cases also in the medical unit, though an outbreak has not been declared there. As such, visitor restrictions are also in place for the medical unit, limiting patients to one visitor at a time.

"As a precautionary measure, universal masking is mandatory on both the surgical and medical units. This includes all areas of the floors, inclusive of patient rooms, for both team members and visitors (where permitted)," states a news release from the hospital. " Visitors are kindly asked to refrain from eating and drinking in patient rooms, although the hospital’s cafeteria remains open for their use."

The hospital is reminding all visitors who are feeling unwell to postpone their visit until they have fully recovered.

Everyone at the hospital for any reason is also encouraged to keep up diligent hand hygiene by using the sanitizing stations throughout the hospital to prevent the spread of illness.
