An upcoming workshop will offer a window into heritage building techniques used on some of the oldest homes and businesses in Collingwood.
A master restorer, Dave Wylie, will be sharing his expertise in the area of restoring heritage wood windows during the workshop at the Collingwood Public Library on April 26.
Organized by the Collingwood Heritage Committee and the local branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, the workshop will illustrate the "methods, challenges, and rewards of restoring historic windows."
Wyle has experience restoring basic double-hung windows from the late 1800s and some oval stained glass windows from heritage churches.
Collingwood's heritage district rules require buildings within the boundaries to be restored and maintained in close to original shape, including the windows. Buildings that currently have wood-framed windows are supposed to restore or replace them with the same type and material.
The workshop will take place in the third-floor community room at the library starting at 6:30 p.m. on April 26. Admission is free.
