The Town of Collingwood announced it will be adding a crossing guard to the pedestrian crossover on Hurontario Street at the Hamilton Drain Trail starting Oct. 12.
The crossover is slated for replacement with a traditional red-yellow-green traffic light triggered by a button that can be pushed when pedestrians want to cross.
The crossover is currently signalized with orange flashing lights and a yield bar for vehicles, but observation at the site has shown there's low compliance by vehicles.
Changes to the lights and pavement markings are will be made late December, according to a town news release. In the meantime, a crossing guard will be at the spot on school days from 8:25 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 3:25 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The town is reminding motorists that the Highway Traffic Act requires a full stop for a crossing guard and the vehicle must remain stopped until all people, including the guard, have cleared the roadway.
