Collingwood Curling Club members stepped into the house and hacks last weekend in memory of a former teammate and dedicated curler.

The first annual Paul Hurst Jitney Bonspiel took place Dec. 10 at the Collingwood Curling Club. Hurst died in June, and is remembered fondly by much of the community, including the curling club to which he dedicated much time and effort.

Hurst brought jitney draws to the local club more than 20 years ago. Jitney is a drop-in style of curling, and it helped grow the membership of the Collingwood Curling Club, which is now over 500 members strong.

The club brought a life-sized cut out of Hurst to the bonspiel to watch over the games and for the trophy awards. Hurst's wife, Donna, presented the trophies. The two met at the curling club.
