Collingwood’s families are invited to attend a public session aimed at engaging further feedback on the design of the future Sunset Point Park playground design.
According to the town’s Engage Collingwood website, the new park will be a custom design, and the town has been working with the public and stakeholders - including the kids who will be using it - to come up with a design.
The latest effort is a family engagement session next week at the Sunset Point Pavillion. The town is encouraging families to share ideas and the town will also be providing information about the design project during the session.
The town put out an online survey in March 2019, and the director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture, Dean Collver, said the results of that survey have given the town some high-level direction to pursue and investigate when it comes to project design.
The family engagement session takes place Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Following the survey, town staff met with more than 200 elementary school-age children at local schools. The kids shared what forms of play were most important based on seven categories including active, artistic, creative, sensory, games, social, and reflective.
Next on the timeline is hiring a designer/custom builder through the town’s procurement process, design work vetted through stakeholders, then a presentation of the draft designs, at which time council and the public will be able to provide comments for further improvements.
This new playground will be replacing the current EnviroPark at Sunset Point, which was built in 1993 and was designed around the theme of water protection and the environment. It includes features like a miniature model of the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
The park is made of wood and concrete.
