NEWS RELEASE
COLLINGWOOD DOWNTOWN BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA
*************************
Preparations have begun for the Collingwood Downtown Farmers’ Market. Vendors are busy planting, growing, baking and crafting to offer only the best for our 16th anniversary season. As the growing season becomes more fruitful, so does the variety of the goods available at the market.
The Collingwood Downtown Farmers’ Market is a member of Farmers’ Markets Ontario and prides itself in adhering to the guidelines of the 100 mile market, featuring only produce grown within 100 miles of the market location, to promote buying local and eating healthy.
With the Market being owned and operated by the Collingwood Downtown BIA, it is also able to permit businesses within the Downtown boundaries to participate in the market.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for retailers, food service and other businesses that are located downtown to promote their trade and allow visitors at the market to get a sample of the wonderful things our downtown has to offers.
At the market ‘Farm to Fork’ presents cooking demos. Watch a chef cook with ingredients purchased at the market and you can learn how to shop and eat locally using fresh foods. Sample a new dish every week and take home the recipe to try it out yourself.
Returning this year ‘Magic at the Market’ a weekly children’s creative art centre presented by Magic of Children in the Arts. It is an interactive way to make the market a family event.
New this season ‘Farm Talks’ get to know your food by learning what factors influence our food system. Ask questions such as what are the benefits to eating fresh produce? How do farmers’ markets support your local economy? ...and more!
While celebrating the start to the market, throughout the month of May on Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. we will also have a food drive. When you give a food donation, you will receive one of our Collingwood Downtown Farmers’ Market reusable tote bags. All the donations will go to the Salvation Army as another way to support our local community.
