The Georgian Triangle Humane Society unveiled its plans for the new home of their new Regional Centre for Pets and People at 135 Sandford Fleming Dr.
The planned 19,200-square-foot facility will be located on five acres.
The facility will include outdoor pet memorial gardens, dog enrichment parks, walking trails, an outdoor education centre and a fully-accredited companion animal hospital. The facility is also intended to become a community hub for animal lovers.
Partners at Thursday's event included Tatham Engineering, PetSmart Charities Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach, South Georgian Bay Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Meaford.
The facility is expected to cost about $14 million and is slated to open in 2025. A capital campaign is now kicking off to raise the needed funds.
Last year alone, the GTHS took in 1,400 animals and facilitated about 1,200 adoptions at their current facility, officials say. The current shelter and animal hospital on Tenth Line is a 3,500-square-foot facility.
The Georgian Triangle Humane Society serves Collingwood, Clearview Township, Wasaga Beach, Meaford and the Town of the Blue Mountains.
