NEWS RELEASE
CROHN'S AND COLITIS CANADA
**********************
The largest fundraiser for research and awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada has raised more than $50 million since its inception 27 years ago.
Returning as an in-person event after a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus, the 2022 Gutsy Walk has collected more than $2.2 million so far.
In Collingwood, local participants have collected $11,789.75.
The fundraising window remains open until July 11 to reach this year’s $2.9-million national campaign goal.
“It was a momentous occasion to see people out once again coming together as one to support those living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The creativity and passion of volunteers, participants and teams was inspiring,” says Lori Radke, President & CEO of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. “Across the country, a strong statement was sent that we are committed to finding a cure for this life-long disease. We thank our incredible community for supporting this cause, and we thank our network of volunteers who worked hard to bring the event to life.”
More than 3,500 people attended one of the 53 in-person Gutsy Walk events held at locations across Canada (including Collingwood) on June 5. An additional 17 events were staged virtually.
The family-friendly Gutsy Walk is the largest fundraiser for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, rallying people together in support of the 300,000 Canadians living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Since its inception in 1996, Gutsy Walk has now raised more than $50 million for support programs and innovative research into cures.

ABOUT GUTSY WALK
Staged annually by Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, the Gutsy Walk is Canada’s largest fundraiser for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research. The Gutsy Walk is a fun-filled, family-friendly and non-competitive day to walk in support of those impacted by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. People typically walk five kilometers, but any distance and any activity done in your community is just as important! Participants can walk any distance they’re comfortable with. Since 1996, Canadians from coast to coast have stepped out – rain or shine – in support of our cause. The Gutsy Walk has raised more than $50 million for research and programs, all thanks to participants, donors and sponsors who are driven to make a difference.
