The Collingwood Blues Hockey Battles Cancer event raised $16,000 for the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital's diagnostic imaging department.

Before the Tuesday evening playoff game, the project chair, Kathy Jeffery, announced the fundraiser's success and helped present a cheque to the hospital in the hopes the funds will help support early detection of cancer.

The second-annual Hockey Battles Cancer game took place on Feb. 2, and included a silent auction, online auction, a 50//50 draw and other activities at the game.

More money was raised and will be used to purchase care totes for chemotherapy patients. The totes will be distributed locally.

Jeffery expressed thanks to the event volunteers who gave their time, local businesses for their contributions to the auctions, corporate sponsors, as well as the community-at-large for their outpouring of support.

“Thank you to the whole Collingwood Blues organization, the project committee and the community for their support,” said Kathy Jeffery in a news release from the Blues.
