NEWS RELEASE
BLUE MOUNTAINS BRUCE TRAIL CLUB
**********************
The Blue Mountains section of the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) has several exciting events upcoming in the Georgian Triangle this September and October. We invite you to participate with family and friends.
Hiking on the trails is a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon. Scheduled events give you the opportunity to meet people and hike with experienced hikers who know the trails and how to get there on our country roads. All hikes on the BTC hike schedule are rated for difficulty and length and are open to members and non-members.
Starting at 1 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2022, join us for the Bruce Trail Music Hike. It starts at Nottawasaga Lookout Provincial Nature Reserve at km 42.5 on page 23 of the Bruce Trail Reference Guide. Take County Road 91 west from Duntroon, right on Osprey-Clearview Townline to the Nature Reserve. There will be musicians playing guitar, viola, flute and singing over the course of three hours at two locations on the trail. The self-guided hike is approximately a three-km loop on the main trail and side trail along the edge of the escarpment. The terrain is mostly flat through a mature forest. Volunteers will be present to assist you with directions and information about the Club and its programs. No charge or registration is required. Donations are always welcome and help us maintain these beautiful trails.
Next, on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday Oct. 2, the Blue Mountains Club end-to-end hike will be held. This two-day hike covers our entire section of the Bruce Trail from Lavender to Swiss Meadows. This long hike is for experienced distance hikers as the terrain is hilly and rugged in many places. Buses are provided to take hikers to the starting point each morning and both days the hike ends at Highlands Nordic Ski Resort, Duntroon. Checkpoints are situated along the trail with water and snacks. Hikers must register prior to the hike at hikes.brucetrail.org. The registration fee covers the bus, snacks at checkpoints and a barbecue at Highlands Nordic on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday, Oct. 2 is the annual Bruce Trail Day from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This year, families are invited to join BTC Conservation and Trail Manager, Adam Brylowski for a biodiversity hike including Frank’s Lime Kiln and Duntroon View Side Trail. The hike will be approximately four km (two hours). Meet at Tim Hortons back parking lot on First Street in Collingwood at 10 a.m. sharp for departure of hikers in cars to Franks Lime Kiln parking lot on the north side of County Rd. 91, 850 m. west of Concession 10.
