Collingwood councillor and deputy mayor candidate, Bob Madigan, had a first appearance in court today related to an assault charge against him.
Documents sworn in to the court on Sept. 12 confirmed Madigan was charged with assault related to an alleged incident on Sept. 5 in Collingwood. He was arrested on Sept. 6. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Madigan was scheduled for a first appearance in court on Sept. 27. Lawyer Scott Thompson spoke on Madigan's behalf via Zoom and said work is being done on the case. He asked for the next appearance to be scheduled for Nov. 1. The judge agreed.
The municipal election takes place Oct. 24, 2022. In Collingwood, there are three candidates for deputy mayor on the ballot including Madigan and Tim Fryer. Jordan Fleming has withdrawn her candidacy. Her name will still appear on the ballot, however.
