Collingwood Mayor Brian Saunderson, joined by the leadership of the Collingwood Optimist Club and Town Crier Ken Templeman, declared today, Feb. 4, to be Optimist Day.

Aside from the gesture of recognition from the mayor, on Optimist Day, club members wear their club apparel to show pride in their clubs.

The declaration recognized the local club's works to display optimism during the difficult times created by the pandemic.

Mayor Brian Saunderson regularly makes proclamations similar to today's. Most recently he declared Feb. 2 as Toque Tuesday to mark the 24th annual Raising the Roof Toque Campaign which involved Redwood Park Communities raising funds for the creation of safe, affordable housing in Simcoe County.

The mayor and council also proclaimed February 2021 as Black History Month in Collingwood. The resolution stated, "diversity and inclusion are the priorities of this council and we have committed to working with our residents to eradicate racism in all its forms."
