Elsie Campbell and Warren Pascoe cannot possibly squeeze more Halloween decorations onto their front lawn, side yard, driveway and roof, but they will keep trying.
The couple’s home at 40 Bush Street has become famous in Collingwood at Halloween time.
“We get over 300 people here on Halloween, our neighbours four doors down get about 30,” said Pascoe.
This year Pascoe created a mounting system for his roof so he could put extra inflatables up there. The couple parks their cars on the road while the Halloween display is up.
There are dozens of inflatable Halloween characters glowing on the corner lot. Most are cartoony - because the display is all for the kids.
Campbell has been running a daycare for 23 years. She and Pascoe have always loved October, and have been collecting for their Halloween display for about 14 years.
“It gets bigger every year,” said Pascoe, adding he now takes both the day before and after Halloween off from work to put the finishing touches on the display and take it down with his friend Eric Nevala helping. “October is our favourite month. We love Thanksgiving and Halloween, the changing leaves, and the perfect weather.”
Pascoe and Campbell were married in October, her birthday is in October too.
And while they celebrate Christmas, they don’t decorate for that holiday like they do for Oct. 31.
This year, while Pascoe was at Rona looking at a new gargoyle/ fog machine for their display, an associate suggested they should use their popularity for charity.
They decided to collect for the Collingwood Food Bank.
Campbell said she’s been collecting for a few days and already has several boxes of donations.
You can stop by the spooky spot today and tomorrow. There will be boxes for collecting non-perishable food items out until 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 on the front porch.
