Six local artists who work out of the studio space at The Tremont building in Collingwood are blending their talents for a new show to celebrate the opening of a new creative space in Nottawa.
Called Inside Out, the show will be running at the newly opened Nottawa General upstairs gallery from Feb. 3 to March 30, and will feature the contemporary works of South Georgian Bay artists Lisa Hannaford, Kaz Jones, Patricia Russell, Jane Fleetwood-Morrow, Jenn Wilkins and Kara McIntosh.
“The six of us wanted to do something together, and at the same time the Nottawa General store opened as a new business with a beautiful new gallery space,” said McIntosh. “We approached them about having our own show there.”
“It’s perfect. It’s really nice to be able to show in our own community, and close to home,” she said.
McIntosh says the 10 different artists who occupy space at The Tremont have done shows together through different combinations over the years.
For this show, each artist has multiple pieces for sale, with an overarching theme of exploring interior and exterior spaces while incorporating vibrant colour.
“We have still-life, paintings of home interiors, landscapes, water reflections and abstracts. All of our work is generally colourful and palettes are very bright and cheerful,” she said. “I think there’s a real feminine energy to the show and group of work.”
McIntosh says there are many benefits of having 10 artists work in their own studios at The Tremont.
“Making art can really be quite isolating, so it’s really great to have a community we have here by working under the same roof,” she said. “It’s very inspiring.”
Nottawa General is located at 4206 County Road 124 in Nottawa. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 3 to 8 p.m.
