The County of Simcoe is delivering its new waste collection carts to some homes in Collingwood today. It's one of the first deliveries between now and November when the carts will be used for curbside collection.
The county posted a notice to its Facebook page indicating delivery was beginning in Collingwood. Homes will receive three carts, one for recycling, one for trash, and one for organics. All three carts have lids and wheels and fit into an automated collection system that will be in use beginning Nov. 1 under a new county waste collection contract.
According to a news release issued last week by the County of Simcoe, the nearly 500,000 new carts will be delivered to households in Simcoe County (excluding Barrie and Orillia), between Aug. 3 and the end of October.
Residents are asked to store their new carts until the new curbside collection contract begins Nov. 1.
New carts will be left at the end of residential driveways, and their serial numbers are assigned to the location where they are dropped off. Those carts are meant to stay with the property even if residents move.
According to the county news release, the schedule for delivery of the carts is subject to change and residents are encouraged to download the Simcoe County Collects app to their smart phone to receive a notification when delivery is pending.
Most of Collingwood's residents will also have a new collection day starting this winter. As of Nov. 1, the county's contractor will be picking up waste or recycling on alternating Wednesdays and organics every Wednesday. Most properties along the town's waterfront will remain on the Monday pickup schedule.
