A competitive youth cycling team based in Collingwood is gearing up for a new season and will be adding to the club with a youth development program.

Collingwood Collective Racing formed a year ago and reports a successful first season.

Head coach, Erik Lehmann said the team did "extremely well," for their first year, which included 66 podium finishes and 39 of them gold.

"Between all our young athletes we had a total of 161 race entries in enduro, mountain bike and cyclocross throughout the season. That’s a lot of racing," he said in a news release. “The big thing is that these kids have fun, develop as athletes and as people, and make new friends. That’s what’s most rewarding."

The new youth development program will bring mountain biking to youth aged eight to 15 years old during a five-week program beginning May 15. Classes take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday nights and the cost for the program is $125. For program details and sign-up, visit https://www.summitsocialhouse.com/community.
