The Town of Collingwood is now accepting nominations for its annual Order of Collingwood awards.
Every year, town council inducts several local volunteers to the Order of Collingwood in recognition of their service to the community as volunteers.
The criteria for nominees require they be volunteers in Collingwood contributing to the benefit of the community and residents of the town. An Order of Collingwood recipient must have been volunteering for at least two years and cannot be a member of the current town council.
The Companion to the Order is also given out once a year to an individual who is already part of the Order of Collingwood, and has continued to serve as a local volunteer since they were first inducted into the Order of Collingwood.
A nomination review committee including the mayor, deputy mayor, two previous Order of Collingwood recipients, two community members, and the CAO will go over the applications to choose this year's winners.
Typically, the Order of Collingwood recipients are awarded and honoured during the Mayor's New Year's Levee. However, last year's Order of Collingwood recipients received their awards on their porches delivered by the mayor because of COVID restrictions.
The 2020 recipients (awards were presented in 2021) included Eleanore Burke, David Hearn, Larry Law, Fiona McGaw, and Marg Scheben-Edey. The Companion to the Order for 2020 went to sisters Carolynn and Sylvia Wilson.
The last time the awards were presented in person was January 2020, and the recipients included Shashi and Eswar Prasad, Ron MacRae, Marilyn King-Lawrence (Companion to the Order), Barbara Sharp, David Saunders, and Larry Hogarth.
To nominate someone for the order, the nominator needs to fill out an electronic form and include a letter of support from themselves and two other people.
Nominations will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m. and are to be submitted electronically. More information here.
