The Collingwood U17 Trailblazers were honoured by council on Monday night following their recent win as Ontario Division 3 basketball champions.

“I wanted to say thank you to all of you for inviting us here to talk about our success,” said player Nicole Kerr. “We are super grateful for the opportunity to even play these sports in Collingwood.”

The Trailblazers travelled to St. Lawrence College in Kingston May 12 to 14 to compete in the Ontario Cup for the end of the Ontario Basketball Association 2022-23 season.

The team won all four round-robin games at the tournament. Their 4-0 record earned them a spot in the gold-medal game against Canada Elite from Scarborough, whom they beat by a single point.

The team is comprised of players ages 15 to 17 from Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Creemore.
