Local food bank shelves are experiencing an annual lull in donations.
Staff at the Salvation Army foodbank in Collingwood have had to go out to buy groceries this month to fill the need.
Typically, the Salvation Army receives the highest volume of donations between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and those donations will often last most of the year.
Right now, the food bank is looking for any non-perishable food items, but particularly cookies, cereal, juice, school snacks, pasta sauce, soup, canned fruit and vegetables, condiments, instant coffee and tea.
You can drop off donations to the Collingwood Salvation Army directly, or you can meet the local OPPAuxiliaryy volunteers this Sunday at Loblaw in Collingwood.
The Auxiliary Unit is hosting a food drive on Sept. 29 at Loblaw from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations for the Salvation Army in Collingwood.
There will also be auxiliary volunteers at Thornbury Foodland collecting cash and food donations for Beaver Valley Outreach in Thornbury at the same time.
