A Collingwood small-batch winemaking service has been making sure the glasses are half full since 1989.

Wine Works is celebrating 35 years in business this Nov. 13 with an open house from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"We're incredibly proud to provide a service that makes our customer's lives better, and thankful we still have the opportunity to serve the community we love," said owner, Kris Scheben-Edey, in a news release.

With customers coming from Meaford to Midland, Wine Works estimates about a million bottles of wine have gone out the doors over the last three-and-a-half decades.

Originally located on Mountain Road across from the former Goodyear plant, Wine Works opened in 1989 as a small-batch beer brewing service called Mountain Brew.

"I was only a baby when the business was started, but have heard all the stories and learned so much from my father (John Scheben-Edey) who ran the business since 1999," said Kris in the news release.

Kris worked at Wine Works for years before purchasing the business in 2021 from his father, John, who continues to work part-time at the shop.

In the mid-1990s, Mountain Brew added wine to their offerings and in 2005, the business moved to Ronell Crescent, and shifting the core of the business to winemaking. In 2011, it was renamed Wine Works.

"Wine has always been fun.  It's fun to make, fun to drink and share, and there's a never-ending list of new things to learn about wine and winemaking.  It was natural for us to love making wine for people we get to know over the years," said John Scheben-Edey, former owner of Wine Works, in the news release.

Wine Works is a small-batch wine-making service, requiring customers to purchase a batch of 30 bottles. The business doesn't sell individual bottles.

All are welcome to the shop for the anniversary open house on Nov. 13 at 14 Ronell Crescent for a brief tour and to learn more about their winemaking process and history.
