The first-annual Jenny’s Birthday Bash was held July 4.

Andrew, owner of The Mill Café in Thornbury and Jenny’s brother, choose this day to honour the memory of his sister, a former nurse at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

“July 4th would have been Jenny’s birthday and what better way to celebrate her and her co-workers at the Collingwood Hospital than to raise money to help purchase the equipment nurses depend on daily to care for their patients. It was a win for us and for our community” said Andrew Barber, chef and owner of The Mill Café and brother to Jenny Cloutier.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, space was limited. “We were lucky to be able to open the patio making 10 tables available, only days before the event,” said Sylvia Barber, Jenny’s sister-in-law. “We had the plan to only provide a take-out option, but the patio allowed us to host a few more people since the take-out orders were at capacity. We could not have accommodated any more people, the staff were definitely running!”

Andrew and Sylvia donated 100 per cent of the proceeds from the food sales, take-out and patio, on July 4 to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation, a very generous donation considering the restaurant has been only able to provide take out since mid-March.

“We look forward to hosting again next July 4 and making an even bigger impact without the challenge of a pandemic to limit us,” said Andrew.

A big thank you to Andrew, Sylvia and all the staff at the Mill Café. Jenny’s Birthday Bash generated over $5,000 to be used toward the infusion pumps at the Collingwood G&M Hospital. Each pump comes with a price tag of $3,322 and this event will pay for almost two pumps.
