Collingwood foodies will get a taste of what local chefs, wine makers and breweries have to offer as the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay’s most successful and delicious fundraiser returns for its 16th year.
Taste of the Town will take place June 10 this year from noon to 3 p.m. at Sunset Point Park and this year, organizers hope to have at least 24 tables showcasing local food, wine, spirits and beer.
“It’s tons of fun,” said Shari Robinson, co-chair of the event organizing committee. “There’s going to be a live band, and this year we’ll have a dance floor.”
Robinson said the event typically involves about 21 restaurants and beverage makers, but this year she hopes to see at least 24 participate.
“It’s a great chance for the restaurants to interact with their clientele in a different way,” said Robinson.
She and the committee started planning this year’s event in October last year. She said there’s a lot of support from the community for the charitable event. Between in-kind and financial sponsors, the Rotary Club is able to donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from ticket sales to charitable projects.
“The local community really pitches in – in addition to the sponsors,” said Robinson.
Tickets for the event are $135 until May 13, and $160 after that. There are 500 tickets, and admission is only available by advance ticket purchase.
But according to Robinson, tickets typically sell out before the early-bird deadline passes.
Taste of the Town is the largest annual fundraiser hosted by the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay. All 55 members of the club are involved in the organizing and running of Taste of the own each year. The club raises more than $50,000 each year, and donates the money to local and International Rotary projects.
Over the last 15 years, Rotary South Georgian Bay has supported charities such as the Tim Hortons Childrens’ Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas Day Feast, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Collingwood Dragon Boat & Canoe Club, Back To School, New Generations, Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, Scholars/High School activity, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, Elephant Thoughts, Kenya: Mully Children’s Family, and the club has donated to the Rotary International initiative to eradicate Polio.
Tickets are available online or by phone at 1-800-838-3006.
