Four people have been taken to hospital following an apartment fire at 475 Second St. in Collingwood.
The fire started in one bedroom of a two-bedroom unit on the third floor of the building. When the fire alarms went off, everyone in the building evacuated, reported Fire Chief Ross Parr.
Two occupants were helped out of the unit by the fire department. A third occupant remained in the unit as her condition made it difficult to get her out of the building.
According to Parr, the building's superintendent used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out, and firefighters arrived to ensure it was extinguished and clear out the apartment.
The third occupant was later taken to hospital, as was the superintendent who is being assessed after smoke inhalation, said Parr.
Residents of the building were allowed back in shortly after 10 a.m. The fire call came in at around 8:45 a.m.
Parr said there was minimal damage, and no damage in adjacent units.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but Parr confirmed it was not caused by smoking.
