NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
************************
On Jan. 27, the provincial branch of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced their intent to proceed with a one-day walkout in a number of school boards across Ontario, including the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), on Wednesday, Feb. 5, as well as a province-wide walkout on Thursday, Feb. 6.
In the SCDSB, this branch of ETFO represents our permanent elementary teachers, occasional elementary teachers and designated early childhood educators (DECEs).
As a result, all SCDSB elementary schools will be closed to students on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and Thursday, Feb. 6, including classes for Grade 7 and 8 students at Elmvale District High School and Stayner Collegiate Institute, as there will not be sufficient supervision to ensure student safety. Transportation for all elementary school students will be cancelled on Feb. 5 and 6.
Before and after school programs in our buildings will not operate. Parents/guardians who have children in full-day child care in SCDSB schools should contact their provider directly.
At this time, all SCDSB secondary schools and adult learning centres will remain open to students on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and Thursday, Feb. 6, and buses will run as per their regular schedule. All Grade 9-12 students at Elmvale District High School and Stayner Collegiate Institute will report for classes as usual.
