The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to advise residents that a new interactive cemetery map has been developed to assist families in finding loved ones in the Thornbury Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

Developed by the Town’s GIS staff for genealogical research, the map will provide information on those who have been deceased for more than 30 years, as per Freedom of Information legislation.

The GIS map offers enhanced functionality and provides the ability to search for a specific site name or the name of a person who may be located within the cemetery.

“This new tool will provide families with the historical archives necessary to reconnect and find loved ones who have passed away,” says Ryan Gibbons, director of community services. “As the tool continues to evolve, the interactive cemetery map will also help to increase staff efficiency by providing the ability to instantly search through our archive files and quickly locate information. This will help address questions families may have regarding their loved ones.”

Residents are reminded that COVID-19 guidelines in place may limit the number of attendees allowed at the cemetery, and if you are planning to visit, please contact the town’s community services department to discuss all current guidelines before your anticipated visit.
