The Town of Collingwood is letting residents know to mind the construction zone at the Collingwood terminals while crews are poking around.

According to the town, the current work involves drilling into the north and south side of the Terminals and Harbourlands Park "to determine the feasibility for the intended future usage."

The intention for the site is a condo tower, hotel, rooftop restaurant and other commercial space, plus a park makeover.

Plans for the Collingwood Grain Terminals revitalization were first presented to the public in March 2023 by developer Les Mallins of Streetcar Developments Inc., with an expected price tag of $200 million overall for the project.

The project, done in collaboration with Dream Unlimited Corporation, includes renovating the Collingwood landmark to a 24-storey condo tower, turning the silo part of the building into a 10-floor hotel with retail and "community spaces" on the main floor.

As part of the project, the town has committed to improving the public realm lands, such as expanding the roads, shoreline work, improving the marina and running infrastructure along the spit on Heritage Drive. The current estimate for costs for that work which will be borne by the town’s coffers comes in at $15 million.

In the meantime, the town is reminding residents to avoid the construction zones at Harbourlands Park.
