Collingwood dog owners will have extra help finding a missing pup provided they get an annual dog licence from the town.

The Town of Collingwood announced on Oct. 30 a new system called DocuPet, which is an existing program for licensing, lost pets, and pet profiles.

Through this new program, all dog licences purchased in Collingwood will include DocuPet's Home Safe 24/7 lost pet service.

Dog tags issued in Collingwood will feature a code linking to an online profile for the dog. Because of this online profile, people who find a pet can connect with the pet's owner quickly by filing a "found pet" report. If a dog goes missing, its owner can create a "lost pet" report as well.

DocuPet has a dispatch team available 24/7 to help reunit pets and owners.

The town news release says to "stay tuned" for information in the coming weeks about the official launch of the DocuPet program in Collingwood.

Dog owners in Collingwood are required to purchase a licence annually.
