More people rented U-hauls to move to Collingwood than out of Collingwood last year.
The company reported an eight per cent increase in customers using their trucks to move to Collingwood, there was an 11 per cent drop in the number of people using the trucks to move away.
In a news release, U-Haul ranked Canadian cities by a "U-Haul growth index" to determine where more people seemed to be moving to (using U-Hauls). According to this list, Collingwood is the 11th highest-growth city in Canada.
"Do-it-yourself movers arriving in Collingwood accounted for 57.3 per cent of all one-way U-Haul traffic in and out of the market (42.7% departures) in 2023 to make it one of Canada’s leading destinations after being a net-gain city in 2022," states the news release.
U-Haul calculates growth cities by each city’s net gain (or loss) of one-way equipment from customer transactions in a calendar year.
The growth index reported by U-Haul is not a full picture of population or economic growth and only records people renting U-hauls for one-way moving trips. It wouldn't include other truck rental companies or full-service movers.
